A Concert Recap By Music Mukbang

Regardless of venue size or city a weekday show always adds challenges when it comes to drawing a crowd. It was nice to see that a sizable audience came out to Canopy Club on Monday April 21st to see Good Neighbours perform live. The crowd was comprised of a healthy mix of students as well as working professionals from the Champaign/Urbana area that I have not typically seen attend shows before.
Good Neighbours started off the evening by performing ‘Kids Can’t Sleep’, ‘Bloom’, followed by ‘Ripple’. While ‘Kids Can’t Sleep' is a great song and easy to dance to, I think it would make more sense to have a more well known song such as ‘Ripple’ played first to get the audience warmed up. From my research it looks like ‘Kids Can’t Sleep' amongst a few other songs played that evening including 'Walk' are currently unreleased, so unfortunately people can’t go back and listen to the song after the concert. However, If ‘Kids Can’t Sleep’ is their next single I do think it makes sense to have first as many people will have their phones out capturing the song, thus leading to more social media traction. Their most popular song ‘Home’ was played towards the end of the set which is logical in this circumstance as a big finisher so to speak.
I think increased stage presence from the group- movement, conversation, etc. would go a long way especially as Good Neighbours fan base grows. Fans love that extra special connection with the band. I would like to caveat as well that I have seen them play a few frats/student events on this tour and I wonder if it had been at a frat instead of a venue if the vibes would have been different (most likely yes).

A couple notes from a photo/content capturing perspective:
- The lighting was challenging to work with, this could be a result of multiple different things (venue, stage size, etc.)
-More interaction with the crowd and movement creates intriguing photos and also creates the opportunity for concert footage to have an organic "big moment" on social media following the show
Overall this show had a very positive energy and uplifting music. I think this tour definitely had a lot of thought behind it with regard to reaching their target audience as well. I look forward to seeing how Good Neighbours grows following this tour and their next release!
